WARNING!! THIS IS NOT A FOOD POST!! 😂. Drugged and worn out. Poor baby is only 3 years old and i noticed a few weeks ago when brushing his teeth that his gums and some of his teeth didnt look healthy. Scheduled dental cleaning requiring anesthesia and unbeknownst to us he doesnt have enough bone in his jaw to support EIGHT of his lower teeth including his lower canines. No cavities but several of the teeth were loose in the pocket and nerves nearly exposed. Would have been a matter of time before serious pain. So my baby had 8 extractions and we discovered that one tooth never grew in in the far back. Just an empty socket. Vet said most likely from the Pomeranian half of him. I cried and cried. Asked her if he was going to end up without all his teeth one day and a tongue dragging out (i would love him regardless just dont want that for him obviously). She doesn’t think so but we must be vigilant. He’s on 5 days of pain meds and antibiotics. So glad i brush his teeth. Could have been far worse if it got to the rotting stage and i didnt know. Our big boy is a champ tho. Beautiful strong teeth.

No warnings or apologies needed YOH, this is your journal, and it is not required reading for anyone.

I'm wish Shir, we don't have to put disclaimers because some people have a fit if a post isn't food related. It's great you can brush his teeth. I don't even try with Bobby. I know he should get his teeth cleaned but i hate he would need to be put under anesthesia. What a sweet poochie!

feed your dog real meat = carnviore diet = make sure it's cooked meat. Bag/can dog food is literally full of sugar and bad refine carbs that will damage the gums/teeth/mouth. look up on you tube "how much sugar is in my dog food?". look up "carnviore diet for dogs" . MEAT, eggs = proper diet for humans & pets.

Why is the people who have all the answers seem to be ones who hide themselves?

Fritzy, that's their problem, I don't let them make it mine.

Jibbee - this had zero to do with his diet and everything to do with his bone formation which would be a genetic factor. We feed both our boys high value food and their treats are things like blueberries, bananas, cantaloupe, carrots and egg whites. Appreciate the input but not everything is caused by the food. There is zero sugar nor refined carbs in their food. This was not preventable. I have a pic of his X-ray. There is literally not enough bone to hold his teeth.

Morticia me too. I have had nine dogs and these 2 are the only ones i have ever brushed their teeth. Im also a much more responsible furry parent than when i was young. I didnt know what i didnt know back then tho i took good care of them and they all lived to old age (minus one). I am careful with their food, their treats, their weight, exercise and so on. If they were kitties i would be called the crazy cat lady.

Rpl-right? Don’t know what made me decide to start brushing their teeth except i noticed my big boys teeth were not as sparkling and got to thinking about it a few months ago. When i was working my puppysitter would brush their teeth for me.

SHIRFLEUR and fritzy i 100% agree with you but what happens is someone gets ugly, someone else defend me (or whomever) and there is a bunch of big back and forth with negative emotions which isn’t good for anyone. And at least one of the people who put a snarky comment on my last dog post i have since discovered is 17. Dont think she is quite the (*(&&-hole she appeared to be. Just think she didnt think and i dont want to be mean to a child. There are so many folks out there who are mean because their life is missing something you know. My life is full and happy as are many on here so why stir it up if i can avoid it with a disclaimer?

Fritzy how old is Bobby? The risk/reward may be worth it. Remember that dental decay can cause the early demise of our little furry family. I have hated putting every dog i have had under anesthesia but they all came thru it just fine with clean teeth for 6 months to a year. It is expensive these days tho. Holy smokes it was nearly double what it was last time i had a dog cleaned which wa probably 8-9 years ago. I dont know how people who have 4+ animals do for the expense of health care for their loved fluffy family.

YOH, I hear you. However, I report rudeness and vulgar comments. The administration does not tolerate that kind of behavior and bans offenders, which is one of the reasons this is such a great site. You are a very kind person, and I try to be the same, but I do not tolerate hateful behavior that can hurt the vulnerable.

Sorry to hear that it is so heartbreaking to see our little buddies in pain. We have been very fortunate with all of our dogs (rescued pit/pit mixes). They also eat good foods. We learned in August that our 15 year old has spleen cancer. He was supposed to die within 3 mos. Hes still here! All of his teeth too (and he's never had dental care). Miracle pup! I think it's def. a breed thing. Seems to be an issue with some friends who have corgis too. I'm sure you are giving your pup the very best care!

Bless his heart. Will he still be able to eat ok once healed? Without all those teeth? He’s beautiful!

Oh…poor baby!💜 Our fur babies are so important and it’s great that you brush their teeth. Cleaning their teeth is extremely important! It’s how we found Sydney’s mouth issues. She had a cavity and we took her for her annual cleaning. She lost 12 teeth because of bone issues. She luckily was able to keep her incisors for chewing. This was last year. I always wondered if it was related to her cancer but guess we’ll never know…. Give your puppy hugs for me! 💜💜
