I was asked by my dear FS friend @Rindaloo to share about my Christmas and holiday plans. Thought I'd share with everyone, in hopes that you'll likewise share what lies ahead for you this year:
We're having Christmas at my house. There will be 12 of us: my husband and myself; my daughter, her fiance and my 9-year old grand daughter and almost-four-year old grandson; my son, his wife, and their 13-year old son; our live-in Dwayne; my twin friends Jeannie and Joannie, and my mother-in-law - OH, that's 13!
Just the fact that I'm ABLE to have it at my house is a tremendous blessing. My house is relatively clean, tidy, and all decorated. My beautiful revolving tree is decorated and glowing with lights. It makes me very happy to watch it all day! We get up early and turn it on and open the blinds on the big picture windows so all the passers-by can see it.
I put out our Dicken's Village Churches this year, but didn't put the little lights in them. Being able to put them out involved cleaning off SIX sections of our big entertainment center which was cluttered to the hilt! I have 12 stockings hung across the big 3-window curtain rod in the living room. There are a few decorations and candles on the fireplace. Christmas cards are taped on the wall. Small presents are under the tree on the tree skirt, and all the rest are bought and wrapped around it. The Fontanini nativity set is displayed nearby where the grandkids can play with it. (Whenever my grand daughter comes over, she swipes Baby Jesus and takes Him to her playroom to be the baby with her Barbie Dolls!)
Hope that gives you a picture of Christmas at my house. We have a church Christmas party next Sunday afternoon, and then will have lunch and presents here on Christmas eve. I've already made Peppermint Bark; a Golden Rum Cake (without nuts, BLAH!); and one WITH NUTS (yummm!); and I've made Chocolate MOUSE (not mousse), which is a chocolate-dipped maraschino cherry (which is the body and tail), with a Hershey Kiss affixed for the head and nose, with sliced Almonds wedged between them for ears).
Still to make for the occasion (but can't make til closer): Cherry Cheesecake Tarts; Seafood Salad with Sociable Crackers; Spinach Dip with sliced Baguette; Macaroni Salad; Mini-Cucumber Sandwiches, and Chicken Rolls (which involve pinching the bread out of brown-and-serve rolls leaving a cup-like shell, then browning the bread in butter and adding chicken broth and cream of chicken soup to it before stuffing it back into the shells and browning them til golden and crispy).
Others will be bringing: Country ham biscuits, potato salad, Do-Nuthin' Cake, Deviled Eggs, and Sausage Balls.
Doing mostly finger-foods, since our tree takes up the dining room, and we will have to sit on the couches and in chairs to eat.

Debbie Cousin, I am not going to make any big changes to my eating plan for the holiday every day is a holiday for me. I pretty much do the same things. I may be making cookies and cupcakes for the grandkids for Christmas to take home.

That sounds wonderful, Debbie! I especially like the Chocolate Mouse and baby Jesus who goes to the tender dare of dolls. We will have our traditional Italian Christmas, with my husband's mother's ricotta lasagna, a big salad, mushrooms cooked in olive oil and wine, garlic bread, and home made apple pie. We will have egg nog, wine and milk. It will all be vegetarian in honor of our vegetarian 20 year old granddaughter, who will likely bring her charming, intelligent and talented boyfriend. The Italian Christmas is sooo much easier than our Thanksgiving dinner, with all the things that have to be made at the last minute or at least the same day. It also doesn't include the number of dishes my husband used to enjoy at Christmas, when it was a multi-family affair, and each family contributed. I attended one of these early in our relationship, and it was delicious, with bedlam, all talking at once, and a traditional paper fight with the present wrappings. We're a bit more sedate but have a good time. Decorations will be minimal, with a Christmas wreath on the door made of wine corks, a small artificial decorated tree, a handmade wooden creche, and an old fashioned paper mache Santa Claus, plus of course the wrapped gifts. I have Fontanini, too. My dad was buying me a piece every year and I finally said to stop because I ran out of room. I have a whole town. Usually I just put out Jesus, Mary, Joseph- some wise men... just the key players. 😁 But it is really beautiful!

Revolving Christmas tree does sound beautiful. Who won't want to go to your place for Christmas. I will be traveling to my sister's. Keeping my fingers crossed roads are open and clear. Usually around 20 people.

What a lovely Christmas scene you have created at home, Debbie. And the food! Sounds like this has all been a full time job, albiet, a fun one. The sweetest thing is your granddaughter playing with Baby Jesus. We have a tiny tree with white lights up on a table. No presents on Christmas Day...probably will pray a Rosary and have some kind of nice meal. Visiting my brother's family later in January and we will share a few presents (it's been a tough year financially). We're waiting until then to open presents. :)

Thanks everyone for sharing! I love hearing how you will celebrate the holidays! @davidsprincess, we were given our Fontanini's a piece at a time as well. We have the 5-7" figures, but my mother-in-law has the ones that are more like 12" and she has the whole set, I think! (Some day I'll inherit that!) They are so beautiful, but not "fragile" so I keep them on a bench which I covered with a green felt so the kids can rearrange them whenever they want. We only have Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus & Manger, the three wisemen, 3 shepherds, the angel, and a camel, and the stable (which is not an actual Fontanini piece). Yes, @Kenna Morton, I am feeling MUCH better (productivity-wise) than I was several months ago. I still have "catastrophic thinking" as my psychiatrist says, but I try very hard to keep the dark thoughts at bay - it's a constant struggle.
Side note: we have a little stuffed cow that sings "Joy to the World," only every note is a MOO, then it says, "Mooey Christmas!" My little 3-1/2 year old grandson loves it and every time he comes over, he wants to help me WRAP it (he puts on the tape). He leaves it under the tree for several minutes, and then he wants to OPEN it and be excited to find it inside. "Old me" wouldn't have allowed the waste of good wrapping paper, but I like to humor the little guy, and I can always buy more paper! Keep those Christmas and holiday stories coming, friends! How are you spending the season???
