CHOLESTEROL!!!!!!!!! I am genetically pre-disposed to high cholesterol. Been borderline since i was in my teens or early 20’s. I have basically taken an ostrich stance on it. You know, hide my head in the sand it will go away. Got my last labs and it has gone up drastically. Cannot for the life of me figure out what im doing wrong. My cholesterol ingestion is well below 200 often 110-130 grams per day. I do NOT want to go on statins. Decided to try and have oatmeal or broccoli or some other super cholesterol fighting food everyday. Started yesterday. Doc appt Monday to go over said labs. I am not a cusser but i sure do want to use a bunch of 4-letter words. Ive been able to heal my pre-diabetic status, homocysteine issues high blood pressure and inflammation issues thru diet and exercise but this bugger refuses to heal. Open to ideas.

You might do some research on black seed oil, I hear it is good for lowering cholesterol. Also, red yeast has been studied for effect on cholesterol. My daughter in law said her grandma took this and lowered hers. Good luck!

If you are genetically pre disposed to it maybe you can't do much about it. If it's not your weight or your diet I haven't a clue. Both my parents and my 3 sisters all had/have high cholesterol and heart issues. I personally think it was due to diet.. The first time I ever had my cholesterol checked, around age 30 I was told it was low "like a vegetarian". I've never been a big meat eater. Over the past several years my cholesterol has been a little high a couple times. Nothing the doctor was concerned about. I would give up all red meat, eggs and shrimp until b the next lab test.it always worked. Will see if all those people who say eating food with cholesterol doesn't make a difference because I have been eating eggs and red meat after my last lab results were a little high. Next lab tests should be this month.

Fritzy im so annoyed!!!! It had been declining steadily for first year i was hopeful i would just by in the caution zone this time not higher than ive ever been. I dont eat ANY 4 legged animals nor much else that has significant cholesterol soooo….will be interesting to see what happens over next 3 months if i can keep up the concentrated effort of incorporating oatmeal daily. Or other cholesterol fighting food. Genetics. Guess it could be worse news.

Try adding ground flaxseed to your diet. Has been shown to help reduce cholesterol. I put a tablespoon in my oatmeal or yogurt almost every day. Aiming for more fiber overall may also help.

I may wait a month before getting my labs done. Not only have I been eating beef, but also way too much butter, having toast too often. I started eating oatmeal as well because I read it can help !owed cholesterol. But I haven't had it much since I started limiting carbs. Didn't know soluble fiber can help lower cholesterol. Now I have to know about soluble and insoluble fiber. Brussels sprouts are supposed to be good too, love them in a stir fry. Beef is the only meat I eat from a 4 legged animal. I gave up pork recently, and have never eaten venison or lamb, etc. There have been 4 bucks behind my yard the last 2 mornings watching me as I let Bobby out. They see me putting bird food on my deck rails and tossing some on the deck. One of the bucks actually climbed onto my deck to get the bird seed and was licking the top of the deck rails. The deer are my buddies. And there are dozens of wild turkeys. I stopped eating turkey a couple years ago after bringing a juvenile into my guest bathroom trying to get stickers out of him. He had so many he cou!dnt move. A lady who lives a couple blocks away and runs a song bird rescue came over to help me with the turkey and gave him pain medicine. I finally found a wildlife rescue that would take wild turkeys. After driving a your both ways to save this little guy's life I just can't even consider eating turkey any more. I'm sure I'll eventually stop eating beef and chicken but I need the protein now. I need to learn to eat fish and try to like beans. I hole you figure out a way to lower your cholesterol!

Fritzy im so glad you helped that poor turkey. I manage to eat maybe 1/2 ounce piece of turkey once a year at thanksgiving and thats because hubs puts so much work into it but often i cannot even do that. I do eat chicken tho i think eventually i will not be able to (emotionally). Fish is about the only protein left that i dont get so heartsick over but im sure that day is coming also. One day i will probably be full on vegetarian. Not vegan tho. I do love cheese every so often. But not much as yes i know its not great for cholesterol folks.

Storms you mean egg whites right? How many more do you think i should be adding. Im not opposed to egg whites i have them weekly im just curious. I do NOT want statins. Ive managed to get off all meds except HRT and now Flonase and would like to keep it that way.

Im careful with avocados because of the calories. Im on such limited calories already.

I won't go vegan either, I drink fat free milk almost every day and eat up to 4 or 5 eggs a week for protein. I eat cheese, usually a low fat mozzarella cheese stick, again for protein and sometimes shredded cheddar cheese in eggs, etc.I even will have the much despised American cheese for grilled cheese sandwiches. I called the turkey Stickers and kept him in the guest bathroom for about 3 or 4 days. Had to wash his "bedding", old towels and rugs about 4 times a day

I think avocados are supposed to be really good for heart health and cholesterol. I usually weigh the amount I will eat, about 2 ounces and can work the calories in pretty easily since I don't eat after lunch.

Good grief -- do not eat whole eggs (whites are okay). Your cholesterol consumption is not the culprit -- it's your saturated fat intake. No more cheese, m'dear. Whole fat dairy is loaded with sat-fat. High fiber veggies will help, as will cardio. Watch those protein bars, by the way. Anything labeled Keto-friendly is usually packed with saturated fat, mostly from coconut oil.
