Seems odd that his is getting blacker. Hope they figure it out. Bobby had skin allergies when he was young and I gave him special food for a year or so.

FRITZY when it first started happening a couple months ago i just thought he was looking slimmer based on where it was showing back by the tummy and hind legs. He has always had allergies but nothing like this. Then we thought it may have been self soothing licking and pulling his hair out because we were in California for a month and he had never been without us. Took about 6 weeks to realize it was actually skin getting darker and darker and darker. He is now on food for skin sensitivity and allergies made with salmon.

Bear where have you been? How are you? Merry merry Christmas sis!!! Im sure things will improve. Thankfully. I would be surprised if something awful showed up. Weird thing tho i kept telling hubs that sawyer (white boy) looked like he had circles under his eyes. We realized today its because the skin underneath his eyes was turning black, showing thru his white fur making it look like dark circles. Strangest thing poor baby. Xoxo

Those sweet babies do get expensive sometimes! 😂 Worth every penny, though. ❤️ Yeah, healthy behaviors are a cost savings in the long run. My saying is I can pay my grocer or pay my doctor, and I'd rather pay my grocer

WOW! THAT'S WONDERFUL! GREAT JOB! FOR ALL THE CRITTERS IN MY ZOO (2 LARGE AUSTRALIAN SHEPARDS, 3 CATS, 18 CHICKENS), I USE ANIMAL SCENTS OINTMENT FROM YOUNG LIVING. IT HAS HEALED SO MANY INJURIES AND SKIN IRRITATIONS. WORKS ON HUMANS, TOO, BUT MADE SPECIFICALLY SAFE FOR ANIMALS. IT'S PRICEY, LIKE $50, BUT THE BIG JAR LASTS YEARS AND DOESN'T GO BAD. WELL WORTH IT, IN MY OPINION FOR A SAFE, HIGHLY EFFECTIVE TREATMENT TO EASE ANIMAL PAIN OR DISCOMFORT. THEY ALSO HAVE T-AWAY FOR ANIMALS. IT STANDS FOR TENSION AWAY, AND IS GREAT TO PUT A DROP OF THAT OIL BLEND ON THE BOTTOM OF EACH PAW BEFORE GOING TO THE VET OR ANY OTHER STRESSFUL SITUATION FOR THE ANIMAL. YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL TRIO!

If your vet hasn’t point you towards what’s call LID, it’s a limited ingredient diet and while getting there is tricky, it can absolutely work miracles. Honest Kitchen, Fromme, and the Orijens (sp?) brand all have variations that work well. Raw diet is another good approach and not as hard as you’d think to manage. My current dogs are on a mix of kibble with Honest Kitchen and white rice (German Shepherds cannot digest brown rice) and so far no one has the allergies that plagued Hogan. Sadie was on Honest Kitchen because it was the absolute best low fat diet I could give her with pancreatitis and my vet credits it with giving her extra years after the first episode. Chicken ingredients (whole or processed bits) are the most common allergens for dogs, but if there are ingredients like alfalfa or other grasses, those can also be problematic. Last thing to be aware of is the link between grain free foods and myocarditis in large dogs. There is info on that on the FDA website, but you can just ensure that your dogs get some grains with plain old oatmeal (rolled oats) and proper supplementation via their food or with vitamins. Sorry to go on, but it’s been a long learning process and worth the effort for my pups. There’s also a great book called “The Dog Dish Diet” that explains canine nutrition in relatable terms. Author is DVM, Greg Martinez. I bought it years ago and still look things up from time to time. There’s other trendy diet stuff out there, but this one is solid info. Good luck, it’s a challenge. Salmon is a great start.
