It's the tale of the tail of a whale. I did it on porpoise - that's for shrewd. Saw a blue whale breach multiple times, went through a superpod of common dolphins, as in 300. Of course I totally missed the shot of the massive body but I did get some good ones of the tail. I don't care that I missed it, I got to experience it with my eyes instead of the lens. Definitely doing this again. I know we're exceptionally lucky to have seen this first time out in years. I've zoomed in on the pics after years and years of "airplane" pics which are primarily blue sky with a dot. This beautiful creature was enormous. In the last pic, it takes up the whole frame. It was doing swirls in the water. We were on an 87' boat and the guide said it was definitely bigger than us. I don't even know how to explain this magic.
Now, in all seriousness, this will be the last bump up. I'm sore from swimming and some weights I've been playing with and the blob is rejoicing, but muscle is also up, more on that. Spent almost the entire three hours on the boat on my feet "snowboarding" the swells. I looked stupid, didn't care, it was great exercise. Three of us ended up doing it towards the front of the boat. we had 3-4' swells with 4 seconds between sets so it was a pretty bumpy ride and perfect for it.
The eating was huge breakfast, no lunch or water until we got back at which point I sucked up two twenty ounce bottles, a large Diet Pepsi and a large unsweetened iced tea no one was touching. We discovered an excellent little restaurant down on the dock which I will be returning to soon and ordering anything not fried. Had raw oysters, halibut, clams, shrimp and other stuff I can't remember. I just used common commercial foods to make sure I logged enough calories. Then, they had ice cream and I ate Halo Top strawberry.
Touristing ends tomorrow with a three week break. But my gosh, I really do love living here. I needed that trip to reaffirm that my life is not all work and that I will make sure to get out and enjoy what I have while I'm here. Now that things are opening up, I think BF and I will go back to our "playing tourist" activities every month or so.
Woke up to the smell of smoke, still haven't figured out what it was, but my little window fan pulled it into the house and I am stuffed up and have the headache from hell at the moment. Hoping it passes soon. It's a great day to be alive, make the best of it. I'm still on my whale high this morning.
