Yeah, it's that bad. I don't like lines so I lowered my blood pressure dramatically with good old fashion weight loss! It was 150/105 at its highest, (280lbs) now at 188 lbs its 100/70 . No Med's!!!!

I’d be curious to read some stats! A funny thought. I’m an old hug and noticed more chubbiness in kids now compared to my childhood...

"Over 70 million adults in U.S. are obese (35 million men and 35 million women). 99 million are overweight (45 million women and 54 million men). NHANES 2016 statistics showed that about 39.6% of American adults were obese."--> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obesity_in_the_United_States

@velvetee , yes I agree. I also thinks besides poor nutrition, a big factor into that chubbiness is that kids today don't play outside like we used too. I remember coming home and then running outside with friends to play basketball, football, baseball etc. or just running around playing tag. Kids today come home from school and the only running they do is to their room to play fortnight or some other video game and talk to people over their headsets.

@diablo, wow! It's an epidemic, very scary numbers.

And I swear the average person in the midwest is worse off. The nicer areas like Florida and California are dropping the average most likely because it seems to be like 75% obesity in my area, haha. I mean obesity is only 40 pounds overweight. Hell, I'm obese going by BMI but most people don't even lift.

The bmi system is a little off (in my opinion) cause it doesn't use muscle mass in its equation. I'm borderline obese too, according to my bmi. And your definitely not obese, so that number can be a bit off to those of us who lido resistance training.

Oh my goodness, that’s truly epidemic and scary! The BMI thing is meh imo, athletes will be considered overweight and dancers underweight. There are also people who have smaller or bigger frames and it matters.

@kennyn true! I wasn’t going out much tho as a kid but I see how this pattern wrecks them nowadays. Let’s blame Internet that became massive 20 years ago..

I got curious and googled a little bit: https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html

I am 6’ 2” , around 225-230 lbs with a 36 inch waist. I do resistance training and my body measurements, especially in my waist and hips, continue to go down (except arms, legs and upper body) while my weight has largely stabilized the last few months. Yet according to BMI I am still overweight (agree) and borderline obese (bullshit). I USED to be obese when I was 287 with a 45 inch waist. But now??? Hell no. So I don’t place much significance on that metric. I got to my ideal weight according to the BMI scale about 25 years ago (174 lbs). I had to literally starve to get there and I looked like I had a terminal illness (and felt that way, too).

Anyone who lifts does not need to worry about BMI. BMI is great for the majority of people since the majority of people never lift or do any resistance training. It helps explain the obesity epidemic. I don't know how anyone can live their life without wanting to see what their body is capable of in some form or another.

Totally agree. And I’m guessing whoever created the BMI was one skinny Doctor 😂
