Down just .4 pounds in a week, not making my 1 pound goal. Looking at my food logs I see I am not following the anti inflammatory diet even a tiny bit. I would need to give up coffee the way I drink it, I can't drink it black. No toast or 1/4 bagels, no wonton strips or canned mandarin oranges in my salads or the Asian salad dressing that is the only reason I eat the salads. Couldn't have the meatloaf I'm planning to make today because of the cream of mushroom soup. Maybe I will try again as a New Years resolution

Do you feel better on the anti-inflammatory diet Fritzy? I'd hate cutting out all the little bits that make a dish special, too.

Sherry, I was just reviewing the anti inflammatory diet. I wouldn't be able to have the meatloaf anyway since red meat isn't allowed. I did feel good when I did the diet 100% I lost 16 pounds the first month. It was no processed foods. So instead of toast for breakfast I'd have things like grapefruit, cantaloupe, berries, avocado slices, chopped nuts, hard boiled eggs. I kept the wok out all the time and would stir fry vegetables with chicken or fish. It was just tough to stick with long term. I think losing weight is the thing that helps more than anything.

Thanks Morticia! I think you would have an easier time with the anti inflammatory diet than I do. Don't you already eat lots of "plants"?

I've been taking cinnamon and turmeric supplements and adding red pepper flakes to my popcorn (I have popcorn every day.) They take awhile to kick in (months), but I do feel they have helped.

Maybe come up with a new food plan that doesn’t completely eliminate inflammatory foods but find a balance. So have your coffee, milk and bagel for breakfast but then your snacks, dinner, and lunch you skip inflammatory foods and choose other options. Or on the days you opt to skip the breakfast bagel allow yourself to have the canned soup or other item later in the day.

Thanks AncientHippie! I know cinnamon is great on an anti inflammatory diet. I put it in oatmeal and bananas. I like to make cinnamon toast once in awhile. I hate turmeric as a spice and remember trying to take the supplements. I thing they were either way too big for me to swallow or a capsule so I didn't pursue that. I rarely eat popcorn.

Thanks Honeebuns! I've had the same idea but need to really pay attention to the plan. Today I decided not to have coffee because I use Hal and half and sugar. I'm drinking a cup of unsweetened mint tea. Prefer it sweetened, but I'm able to drink it plain. I'm finally going to cook the meatloaf which I really shouldn't have have because I need to avoid red meat for more than one health concern. I do eat more plants since my doctor suggested I eat this way. I'm very good about no processed meats except very rare breakfasts out. My doctor listed exactly what he meant so I was clear about it "no bacon, sausage, salami, pepperoni, ham, etc" So I avoid the deli department

Thanks Diana! I know weight loss will help with inflammation in TBE long run. At my doctor appointment I will ask my doctor to order the CRP blood test to see how bad the inflammation is. I think I've lost about 20 pounds since the last time it was checked.

Sugar and dairy are no good for you on the anti-inflammatory diet. I used to drink a large yeti cup of coffee with sugar and creamer in the morning and an energy drink in the afternoon because I was always so tired. When I cut sugar and dairy out I found that I started sleeping better and in turn I didn’t need the coffee to get me going. It’s been 6 months and I’ve splurged on a coffee once. Switching to the tea is a great step. You don’t have to leap into everything all at once, consistent baby steps will get you where you need to be. Look up some recipes, switching things up and finding different flavors helps keep it from feeling so mundane.

Thanks Raecar! Non fat dairy is allowed on the diet. Since I don't eat meat every day I use dairy for a large portion of my daily protein. I've been reading that they are re thinking whether dairy is good or bad. It sounds like yogurt is very good. I never have yogurt but may add some into my diet, even if it's just for the protein.

Fritzy - .4 is a win! A down is a down. Perhaps you didn't entirely hit bullseye with the goal that you had set for yourself, but at the end of the day you did hit the board. What we ate yesterday is in the past. Today is a new day and another opportunity to hit bullseye.
