For serious swimming, including open water, get a Garmin. Hands down the best. No one saw that coming from me, did they? 🤣 That said, I use an Apple Watch 5 that I bought as refurbished from the apple website. Don’t go lower than series 5 since there was a major upgrade in the swimming tracking function. You can also look at the app called MySwimPro for recommendations.

I should mention I hate paying full price for stuff, but there are items I lust after and so I do refurbished with warranties.
