Still mulling over the whole glycemic index thing...

I'm certainly no expert, and I'm not diabetic either, but I find the simple vs. complex carb and GI studies very interesting. Found this one today, that grabbed my attention because it especially applies to those in maintenance (and at high risk to gain the weight back).

The graphic was difficult to make readable. I suggest you either take a screenshot and then see if you can enlarge it on your phone/device or go to the website yourselves. It was an easy to read article with some good info.

Thanks for sharing. I do not have a reference to where i had seen some similar information but one additional insight is that not all low glycemic index foods are healthy. The article does recommend minimally processed foods. Some foods achieve artificially low glycemic values through additives or artificial sweeteners which are harmful over time. Again, i don’t have a reference. While i agree with the article, not all low glycemic foods are created equal.

I think that there are vitamins and other things in the complex carbs that have to affecting our systems in more positive ways than the simple sugars do. I am a calorie in, calorie out person but I tend to focus on getting a good amount of vegetables with fiber and fresh fruits
