Great post by Ben Carpenter examining whether or not sugar is going to harm you. Sugar is not very filling and easy to overeat because of that, but when calories and protein are equated, sugar does not seem to have a negative impact on health believe it or not, regardless of what your Netflix documentary says. In this study 2 groups were given identical macronutrient diets but one group ate around 10g sugar per day and the other ate over 100g per day! There were no differences in fat loss, body composition, or any markers of health between the groups. And this study was extremely tightly controlled because all the subjects had the meals provided for them!- Layne Norton. Biolayne.com

I bet the screening was very strict too. I don't think that they would have the same study effect if people were predisposed to diabetes or were diabetics. but maybe I am wrong. they had people across all the different types of folks. that would make the study more interesting

Thankfully diabetes doesn't negate CICO in any way. Neither does insulin resistance. Diabetics should follow their doctor's advice to remain healthy.

Interesting - and to follow the train of thoughts... being a FORMER diabetic (yes, there's such a thing) CICO worked best after I found the macro ratio that worked best for my lifestyle and other comorbidities.

then I think you would be the best person to ask if you think with your correct macro's set if you would have no effect if you daily ate 100g of sugar a day.

Sugars are carbs, carbs are calories, so no, no negative effect. Carbs actually have a higher thermic effect than fats so given the same calories and protein, a higher carb diet has a slight advantage.

my total sugar on Thursday was 99.51g, I don't use sugar but I eat a few sweet things 😋

Nice. I just had 74 grams in my pre bedtime meal. Time to sleep like a baby.

I think most of us that are carb sensitive have a different effect with refined carbs like sugar based ones. I know for a fact that when I eat a torilla made from flour (refined carb)I have a reaction,,, the latest episode I retained water for 4 days. Not to mention the other symptoms I don't dwell on. sugar spikes my appetite and drives me immediately to want more. so for some people any sugar would cause issues that would drive them to the fridge or the food pantry. in a controlled study with no food available they would just suffer feeling like they were starving. maybe they would still lose weight maybe they wouldn't. but they would definitely be suffering during the process. so many think that each person is not individual and have different needs. you can not lump everyone into the same box and expect the same results. I think the study is very interesting and it shows what works with one group of people. to confirm this study there would need to be more than just one and get consistent results across a diverse set of groups.

It's impossible not to eat sugar almost everything has sugar in it

There is no maybe, you lose weight in a deficit no matter what you eat. If you need to stay away to refrain from over-consuming, then do so.

true but not a 100 g of it daily. heck I still eat bacon even though it has a bit of sugar and I do suffer for it, it spikes my appetite and I have to control the urge to eat again. But I only have it generally once a week and I manage it knowing what will happen.

They've done metabolic ward studies on several different types of people. From obese, athletic to previously obese. Male and female centered etc. I can link you to several. I think the number is 31 that I know of. In a controlled environment, when calories and protein are equated, fat loss is equal no matter who you are.

100g is pretty tame. Either way, they are just carbs, the number doesn't matter.

Finally somebody not on keto. I mean if you feel good on it by all means do it, but you don't really need to go that far to lose weight and be healthy.

@Azzamomair I eat carbs too. 😋 lost 80 lbs n I’m maintaining with no difficulties with my lifestyle change. There is many of us on this site that are not on keto 😏 Welcome 👋🏻

I'm not on keto either, although I do limit the unrefined carbs. I eat lots of veggies and fruits that have a higher carb content. I also eat a small sweet treat of pure sugar after supper and occasionally after lunch (I keep the snack size dark chocolate Kit Kat bars in a drawer at work, lol...I eat one. It satisfies the craving). Some folks can't do that because it makes them want more and they overeat. My main problem is salt. I'm trying to limit adding salt because so many foods contain sodium to begin with. Chips and pretzels are my binge foods, so I try to stay away from them as much as possible. Retaining water stinks!! 😁

I limit sugar only because it causes inflammation in me and I feel pain after eating things like cookies, pasta, and wine. I love those things, but keep them to a bare minimum due to the physical changes I feel (which have come about since turning 50). A calorie is a calorie, imo, so if you're within your RDI and you've spent all your calories on sugar, then that's your business. I'm trying to get a balance of nutrients, too, so filling up with sugar would negate things like certain vitamins and minerals that might be lost by avoiding other foods in favor of sugar.

I have mentioned this before (adnauseum) but try Morton’s lite salt. No difference in taste but it is half sodium chloride and half potassium chloride. Also, keep in mind that there are many vegetables, asparagus being one, that are natural diuretics and are truly effective.

I keep chocolate, hot Cheetos, pasta, cookies 🍪 to a minimum cause they are high in calories 😖 but I still enjoy them from time to time 😏
