Except in Keto, you don’t count calories. I lost weight (25 lbs—not water), without a deficit. Just by my body burning fat instead of sugar/carbs for fuel. Now I’m trying to do this without being strict keto (although my overall way of eating is still pretty much keto), and holy crap it’s so much harder. I am kicking myself for getting lazy with it all after losing weight before. But it took almost three years to gain it back. Totally my own fault. I was eating too much pizza and fried chicken lol! 🤷♀️ This time around, I’m watching calories and the weight is coming off sooooooo slow. Too slow. Definitely going back to full keto.

However, I don’t know anything about the other diets listed lol.

Without a deficit? You're not paying attention. You cannot defy the laws of thermodynamics. Science disagrees. You lost via a caloric deficit. You don't have to count when you omit a huge variety of foods which you do when you are doing keto. The deficit is automatic. You burn dietary fat, not stored fat. At least, not any faster than any other diet given the same deficit.

"A trial in a controlled setting (a metabolic ward) compared several isocaloric diets composed of 15% protein, 15-85% carbohydrate, and 0-70% fat. It concluded that caloric restriction, not macronutrient ratios, determined weight loss.[3] Comparing low- and high-carbohydrate diets over 6 weeks[4] and 12 weeks[5] led to the same conclusion, as did comparing a low-fat/high-protein diet with a high-fat/standard-protein diet.[6]" https://examine.com/nutrition/what-should-i-eat-for-weight-loss/

Saying that you burn more fat when on keto is the same thing as saying you burn more carbs on a high carb diet. At the end of the day, it makes no difference. You net calorie deficit or surplus is what matters

Tell that to how my body responds on keto vs calorie counting. My calories are MUCH higher on keto because of the large amounts of added fat. I ate more calories than before! There’s a huge community of keto die-hards that experience the same results. Science is great. But what I like most is results :) I can count calories all day long and barely lose. I go keto, and I melt. Whatever that is? I’ll take it!

I feel the biggest benefit to Keto is the lack of hunger and cravings vs. the high carb low calorie diet. The higher fat no carb holds you longer. Also I get to eat things I like...eggs, cheese, steak, etc that most calorie counting diets don't like you to have as they are considered high fat. Age plays a big role as well. A healthy male can loose weight in his 20's and 30's like nothing...just stop eating and drinking so much. Try that when you are older or have a body susceptible to weight gain.

@Anastacia I found it online. All it says (that we can't see) on every single one is "by creating a caloric deficit."

It's almost as if there is a pattern to all diets?
Which one you follow is up to you

Kyah, you're self admitting that you don't even count in keto and then go on to say you are eating more calories....Noone has proven that you can eat above maintenance while losing fat. You'd be the first after all of these years. High fat does not equal high calories. Limiting options always results in less calories overall when not counting.

Also, that was as wide as I could make the picture. You can go to that site that is displayed at the bottom.

Schill, protein is the macro that really makes an impact on hunger compared to fat and carbs. The difference in satiation between carbs and fat is very minimal if at all. Low calorie options that take a while to eat make much more of a difference. I could eat way more calories of bacon than apples before getting full and way more chips than steak. Keto is an elimination diet and some people need that to reach their calorie goals. It also makes some believe that they are in a surplus and cheating the law of thermodynamics, apparently. When groups of people have been studied in metabolic wards, fat loss is the same whether on low carb or low fat when protein and calories are equated.

the truth...it's all about creating a calorie deficit any which way you do it! Thanks ☺

Calories are only part of the overall equation. If you can't sustain a diet, it won't work. There's way more to weight loss than merely counting fairy farts, you don't become a machine without addressing the process holistically.

Of course, if you can't sustain a way of eating that allows you to reach your calorie goals you will fail. Common sense.

Some people prefer to count while regulating the foods they love. Some need elimination diets to keep them on track.

All diets, including keto only work if there is a caloric deficit 👍🏻

"People on very-low-carb diets can also lose weight very quickly on the short term because the depletion of their glycogen stores leads to the excretion of bound water. That explains why two trials found that people on a low-carb diet had lost more weight than people on a low-fat diet after 6 months but not 12.[19]"
