Not gonna lie, a little bummed. I really was looking forward to a drop, but I began strength training this week. I was thinking it was time to start lifting and increase my activity levels. I realistically knew there may be a rise in my weigh in, but I was praying there wouldn't be. But here it is. I can't help but to understand why people wait until they reach their goal weight to start lifting, it's because of this right here. The "weight gain" from the swollen and sore muscles is discouraging. It's encouraging to keep seeing drops than to see a gain. I am so tempted to just not do it anymore to avoid this "disappointment". Sigh. I know better, yet, I am still struggling with the idea of quitting and waiting to start lifting again until I get under 200 lbs. I just need some encouraging positive vibes. 😮‍💨

You know the cause of that gain. Why feel discouraged? This is also another lesson that has to be learned. Mind over emotions. True faith at yourself and what you are doing.

Do you have a scale that measures body fat? I know mine isn’t 100% accurate, but I get to see how the half pound of weight gain correlates with a drop in body fat percentage (when I’ve been doing the muscle work I should), and that keeps me motivated.

Your absolutely right Tassos, mind over emotions, another lesson I'm trying hard to learn during my journey. And yes AT, I do, I'm iffy about its accuracy that's why I don't use it, but I should so I can document the changes and match those changes to my activity levels.

if your scale isn't accurate but it's consistent you will see the movement anyway. a scale that mismeasures by 2% will ALWAYS be 2% off, so I'd you go up in muscle mass and down in body fat the inaccuracies are moot. it's a base line. you're looking for changes and trends. keep your eyes on the finish line

Keep moving forward, the weight loss will come! It's easy to get discouraged but be positive in the fact that you are eating right and exercising. Measurements are a big help as well. They will tell more than the scale!!💜

You're making the effort to get healthy, so don't knock yourself. That little .8 gain is possibly water, possibly PMS weight, possibly nothing. I am one of those dieters that held off on resistance training (I use the bands) until I was within 15 lbs. of my ideal body weight for my height. With my body type, I would have looked like a stuffed sausage or a thug if I had started sooner, and there would have been no muscle definition. If you need strength to do regular chores or to help you at work, then I would go ahead and start lifting. Some people have very physical jobs that require lifting boxes or being on their feet all day, and strength training can help prevent injuries. I sit at a desk, so no need. I just did regular cardio until I came close to goal.

If you wear a belt, or tight pants, that's more reflective than +/- 3 lbs on a scale. Fat loss is inevitable with the right combination of calories in, calories out.

It’s the worst part of starting lifting. I can handle the soreness, it’s the balloon phenomenon that gets me. It’s really a bummer and you look and weigh like a** and you’re like whyyyyyy Say it with me. “This will pass. This will pass. This will pass.” Because literally in a week or so that’s what will happen and you know it. You’ll pee gloriously and then all the sudden you’ll start looking ripped and cut. STAY THE COURSE. YOU GOT THIS.

I started water aerobics and lifting 6 weeks ago. Weight seems to be stuck. Inches are changing almost daily. Proud of my changing body! Motivated to keep it going, in spite of the major soreness! Starting the search for muscles at almost 67 isn't for the faint of heart! You Can Do It!

weight training will help you in the long run. the more muscle you have the higher your base caloric spending is. I would suggest to focus on getting stronger and limit the time you are looking at the scale. not sure how you are handling cardio but the benefits of walking everyday also adds so much value. low intensity steady state cardio won't tax your system as much so you can do it everyday. just need to make the time. good luck and keep working on it. take care
