Well, here we are, weight up again - still the BMI for me is in my comfort zone where it has been for most of my adult life. Need to get running again in a little while but first taking some "for myself-time." Yesterday I had an interview and there is usually a period of dialog off the record before and after the official interview in which we make some small talk. The interviewer made a comment to me about how he had to watch his weight and how I looked like I was in good physical shape. I had to tell him; it is a constant battle every single day. I explained how I am actually going through this mental process now to break the “180 lbs. wall.” That led us into another conversation about Simone Biles - I personally do not follow the Olympics like I did when I was a kid. But he asked me what my opinion was of her dropping out to focus on her mental wellness. I don’t really have an opinion on her, but it does make the achievements of people like Mary Lou Retton and the other athletes much more amazing. Those athletes had a nation that was focused on achievements of the group or team, not so much the individual. Those athletes, as we saw with Mary Lou, performed with a pronounced physical injury and came through for her team showing amazing mental and physical toughness - this is not to mention how many of these girls, as now we know, were sexually abused by their team doctor and still performed with all of those pressures plus the dark secret of being sexually abused. For that they should be recognized for their amazing (really amazing) high personal performance standards they held themselves to. Well, that is all I have for today. Have a great day my friends.
