Hi Wifey😊 I graduated high school at 17 and went right into the M.A program. So I have been a Medical Assistant for 19 years. I got pregnant during school and was in labor with my first so I didn’t walk for graduation and they mailed my degree. I have always wanted to go back to school for my LPN or RN, but I held myself back like how the heck am I supposed to do this with a baby. I waited until I was 34 with 3 kids and a husband. My dad was dying of cancer and he was so proud of me and I decided life is to damn short to not follow my dream so I pulled up my big girl pants and registered for college. I was to start Fall of 2014, sadly my dad passed away 9/11/14 so I held of till Spring of 2014 while dealing with a loss and lawyers. I have been going slow since 2014 and I am about to apply to clinicals.

19 years in the field, you learn an awful lot. I did Family practice and Urgent Care. I love what I do 😊 I go slow because life always throws that curve ball and it’s been a multitude of bid events every semester. C’s earn degrees but I strive for A’s and B’ and that is mostly where I sit. I’m so ready for clinical but afraid of what’s going to happen when I start. Clinicals will be the easiest for me and my grades are top notch. I got a B in AP I and an A in AP II and a lot of experience. The college I go to puts out top notch RNs. They are ranked 3rd nation wide in the RN program

Where are you going to be going to school? Nurse here as well, but in the other end of the career spectrum. I so hope you will love it as much as I do.

Hey Kenna😊 it’s funny because it’s a community college and not a university. Harrisburg Area Community College. All I heard in the hospital last year was how their graduates hit the floor running compared to other colleges. It was probably a year ago or 2 when I saw that HACC ranked 3rd in the country. Hospitals are hiring graduate RNs before the NCLEX is even taken. I’m assuming based on clinicals on the floor and grades. I absolutely love what I do and love working Urgent Care and have been taught how to hang and change an IV bag and shown how to start one.

Good for you jcmama777. We need people like you in our profession. You work a long time in the course of a life and it is important to like what you do. I don’t know about your area of the country but here in California nurses are pretty well paid, but A BSN is really required now days, and a Masters for any kind of management position. But you are so right— many have all the book work but are shy on their clinical experience and require at least six months of mentoring

I can’t wait to fulfill my dreams ❤️ Yes we need a BSN out here too but because of HACC they give you time to get it and will even pay for the extra school. I’m already taking classes towards my bsn that will transfer. Love Psychology!! Took mandatory 101 and took 209 no longer mandatory but I believe is towards BSN and I’m taking Abnormal Psychology in fall.

Kenna I think when UPMC are hiring the graduate RNs it is maybe holding a position for them pending their NCLEX and licensing. My friend is a CRNP and his daughter just graduated HACC and already has a job lined up. He said though that some hospitals will have graduate nurses on the floor but they may be limited in what they do. I forgot I just finished up Sociology and Com. Sociology is no longer a requirement but is for BSN so I will have that under my belt too thank goodness 😅. I’m just going nuts waiting for Final grades😩😩😂
