Hi, Hachimaru-san! I don't have chopsticks at home other than the regular bamboo ones from China. It might be a weird question but I'm going to ask anyway:) What kind of chopsticks are considered good in Japan? Good enough for a gift? I like the long, metallic chopsticks from Korea, they look slick and all, but I just want to find what kind of wood is used in Japan for really crafty chopsticks!? 

margatyna: Most of the chopsticks used for meals are short wooden chopsticks coated with lacquer or synthetic resin called lacquered chopsticks. On the other hand, there are also chopsticks whose surfaces are not coated with lacquer to emphasize the beauty of the wood grain. Some have been cut off at an acute angle.
