This has been noticed by myself any time I lose a lot of weight. Sure, I may get down to a lighter bodyweight, but I look leaner at a higher bodyweight sans intense cardio. Walking is great though.

I think it's also okay to just genuinely like cardio - some people do. I will tell you, however, its a hell of a lot easier to maintain my calorie deficit when I'm not doing cardio. I wonder if that's part of it.

i wonder how much fat gain a person would get if they never did cardio,,,

I think light jogs preserves a lot of muscle mass also and burns more than walking. Light jog like you’re still able to talk easy. Also you can use resistance training to burn more calories if that’s the goal by taking less rest times and keeping your heart rate up

It's totally fine if people love intense cardio. It's addicting and fun once I start running daily. As long as said person isn't trying to maximize lean mass, it's fine in a routine.

Yeah, people see walking as cardio but not lifting. A set of squats works your heart more than walking or a light jog. And if you keep rest short, you're in for a lot of cardiovascular training.

Lol yea I just did one today, drop sets on my last set. Rest was dropping plates. Feels like you’re doing sprints!

Are1981, for sure. I would get hungrier when running a lot erasing the extra deficit while also losing more muscle than I wanted which made me look worse in the end. In my opinion, at least.
